Auriga Energy funding- Auriga Energy has secured funding support from a Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills (DIUS) grant for R&D administered by the South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) to enable the company to achieve a major milestone, the demonstration of an integrated hydrogen fuel cell system for marine, urban transport and light industrial applications. Jas Singh, the managing director of Auriga Energy, commented: “this is a great boost to help us achieve our business targets in response to the growing market demand for zero-carbon products”.

Auriga Energy’s modular and scaleable fuel cell system combines our novel maximum-efficiency-tracker algorithms, derived from experience in the space industry, and control system know-how for a ‘balanced system’ utilising new supercapacitors and regenerative braking in a patentable solution. The initial focus for our products is for three domains starting with a fast Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB), fork lift trucks and auto-rickshaws. A parallel development is looking at the application of these technologies for stationary power to the domestic and industrial user.
Our modular system incorporates the following key elements:
- Auriga Energy proprietary onboard control computer incorporating the algorithms
- Auriga Energy cell monitor
- Auriga Energy charge regulator
- Fuel management system, incorporating
- oxygen extraction subsystem
- hydrogen storage and management subsystem
- Energy storage and conversion system
- The powertrain propelling the boat via a robust electric motor
Our hydrogen fuel cell powered products for the mass market will make a real impact on CO2 emissions and offer the following advantages:
- fuel cell are normally 2.5-3 greater efficiency than the internal combustion engine
- Auriga ‘engine management system’ provides additional gains
- high reliability, longer life and low maintenance
- 5000 hrs running time = 150,000 miles in a car
- lower through life costs
- increased efficiency = lower fuel costs = improved competitivity
- no battery charge area or disposal costs
- fast refuelling (+potential ‘hot’ swapping of fuel tanks)
- quiet operations
- zero-emissions
